Interesting Posts From My Google Reader
Posted by JasperP on August 31st, 2008
Just thought I’d post some interesting posts I found from my Google Reader. I follow quite a number of blogs and found some of these posts to be very interesting. I hope you find them helpful!
- Writing explosive ad copy is an important skill to have as a marketer. Your ad copy needs to entice people to click and to buy whatever you’re promoting. TrafficTacticsBlog.com has a nice list of 77 “silver bullets” to enhance your copy.
- In addition to the 77 “silver bullets” above, here are more examples from PPCFool.com of great copywriting. The idea is to impose “shock” to induce action from your visitors. By using shocking keywords, you can startle your visitors to increase CTR.
- And here are more “magical” keywords from the TrafficTactics.com team
- How does the 20/80 rule apply to PPC Marketing? Basically, from launch to optimization, you should be left with a handful of keywords to optimize your campaigns on. Derek at ClickConsultants.com explains how the 80/20 rule applies to keywords in your PPC marketing campaigns.
- You should always consider the structure of your PPC campaigns in order to maximize your ROI and conversions. Joe from PPCHero.com talks about how a poor PPC structure will make your campaign suffer.
- Here is something that I haven’t had too much experience with.. which is Facebook ads. It’s pretty hot to get into right now, although, it’s getting much more saturated as more and more blogs talk about it. Anyway, Zac Johnson talks about split testing different pictures in your ad copy. It’s interesting to see how each picture can make big differences!
So that’s it! Now go out there and make some money!

“I Can Accomplish Anything!”
Posted by JasperP on August 19th, 2008
I had an interesting conversation with a friend over lunch today and it kind of made me realize a few things about having the proper mindset. I was talking to her about my business and how I promoted products and services. She said she wished she could start a business too, but she said she’s not business minded. I was telling her reasons why she could do it and I think she understood my point.
Now I know business is not for everyone, but I really believe if you put your mind into it, you can accomplish anything. I knew that my friend played high school sports before and I knew how strenuous that can be. Competing in sports is a great example of accomplishing a difficult task. In sports, you have to tell yourself to physically compete with other players who also want to win. You have to mentally drive yourself to exhaustion to endure the physical pain to accomplishing your goal of winning.
This relates to having a positive mindset. If you think you CAN do it, you’re right. If you think you CAN’T do it, you’re also right.
My proposition is this: Start telling yourself you can accomplish anything. Be a problem solver. Ask yourself, “How do I do ______?” Stop thinking, “I can’t do it” or “This is too hard” or “I quit”. Once you start believing that you can accomplish anything, you can apply it to all sorts of things that don’t involve business.
- Want to learn to play a musical instrument?
- Want to play a sport?
- Want to learn how to build something?
- Want to make money online?
- Want to start a business?
Believe in what you’re doing, push through the obstacles and you’ll eventually reach your goal. Failure is not a point at which you stop, it’s a lesson in changing your approach.
I’d love to hear stories of business or non-business accomplishments you’ve had.
What have you accomplished lately?

How To Study Your Competition With Compete.com
Posted by JasperP on June 18th, 2008
Studying your competition is a skill you should master if you want to make more money as an affiliate marketer. By understanding your competition, you can create better sites, and better copywriting to outwit your competition.
The immediate benefits are:
- It’s easier to understand the visitor since some else has already done the research.
- Headlines and other web copy has already been tested for sites with months of history.
- Web sites has already been laid out for you, just take the elements from various sources and put it all together for a highly converting site.
Now here’s a tip I use pretty much all the time when I study new niches… I hope this doesn’t bite me in the end… but I study my competitors VERY CLOSELY with compete.com…
Why do I do that? Well if a competitor has been advertising in a niche for awhile, then he’s probably profitable right?
So how do I do that? Well… let’s take a popular clickbank product like Fat Loss 4 Idiots.. I think everyone is familiar with this product right? (A VERY expensive niche by the way, which I don’t recommend for any beginner/newbie)
And I use the product name “Fat Loss 4 Idiots” as the keywords:
Now here’s my little secret… I use Compete.com to determine their history!
In the screenshot above, you can see that FatLoss4IdiotsFlaw.com has been advertising since December 2007! If you are advertising for that long and getting traffic, then he must be getting something back. It would be a waste of time to just continue trying to create more traffic for the site.
Now he might be getting traffic from other sources, but from the screenshots above, you can see that he was advertising in the #2 spot for the product keyword name! I’m guessing to be in that #2 spot, that keyword must be REALLY expensive, but at the same time it MUST be converting into sales!
At that point, I would study all the different landing pages to determine what marketing angles they are using. You can then make it better than the original sites and add your own elements make it your own. Or you can even take the best elements into one awesome landing page site!

My Current Success…
Posted by JasperP on June 5th, 2008
So how am I doing now? I was able to do $9,551.54 in commissions for the month of May. My ROI is around 200-250% based on my adspend. Check it out:
I’ve been trying to build up my capital so that I can spend more on advertising. I want this business to expand so I’m not planning to spend the money on a car or anything.
The mindset is totally different when working for yourself as opposed to working for someone. I’ve learned that being in business, you need to maintain good cash flow and because money moves in and out of the account regularly, especially in large amounts!
The next step for me is to expand to other networks such as AzoogleAds, NeverblueAds, and others. I’ve made some money there, but was short-lived when Google put the smackdown in Late-March 2008.
I just applied for membership at UberCamp and just subscribed to ClickConsultants. UberCamp, hosted by Paul Borque of UberAffiliate.com, is more of an intermediate-advanced affiliate marketing forum where some great affiliate marketers such as Jonathan Volk and Ian Fernando participate in.
ClickConsultants is a newbie-intermediate (advanced?) affiliate marketing forum that also focuses on affiliate marketing. They provide free landing pages per month and also have tutorials on different aspects of PPC marketing with CPA Networks.
My current goal is to make $1k/day in commissions on average across 7 days. I think breaking the $1k/day will be a bit of challenge, but knowing the goal will help me to focus on it.

My First Clickbank Direct Deposit
Posted by JasperP on June 1st, 2008
Yes! My first direct deposit from Clickbank! I’ve always received the paper checks and I remembered hearing that you can get direct deposit with clickbank. I read on some forums that all you have to do is request it to get direct deposit.
Clickbank Direct Deposit - Secret Bonus?
In case you didn’t know, getting direct deposit from Clickbank is kind of hidden. There’s no information for it in their help files and supposedly you need to be making $1000+ per month in order to get this added to your accounts. It doesn’t hurt to ask, so why not right?
“I want it. Give me the direct deposit!”
What I did was I went to the Clickbank Contact Us Page at:
https://www.clickbank.com/publisherquestion.html
I filled out the basic info and asked, “I would like to setup direct deposit for my account. What do I need to fill out?” They sent me a PDF form to fill out where I attached a voided check. Within a couple of days, I was approved for it!
So on May 30, I look in my bank account and see this:
I blurred out my clickbank ID, but I think you get the picture! Now I don’t have to wait for that one Clickbank check to arrive to get my money.
The benefits of this is that I get the check 1 day early and plus I don’t have to drive to the bank! It’s a win-win-win situation.
I don’t get why they don’t make it standard like the other affiliate networks. CJ, ShareASale, AzoogleAds, and other major networks offer a direct deposit option for all their affiliates. Oh well. Go figure.
