Interesting Posts From My Google Reader
Posted by JasperP on August 31st, 2008
Just thought I’d post some interesting posts I found from my Google Reader. I follow quite a number of blogs and found some of these posts to be very interesting. I hope you find them helpful!
- Writing explosive ad copy is an important skill to have as a marketer. Your ad copy needs to entice people to click and to buy whatever you’re promoting. TrafficTacticsBlog.com has a nice list of 77 “silver bullets” to enhance your copy.
- In addition to the 77 “silver bullets” above, here are more examples from PPCFool.com of great copywriting. The idea is to impose “shock” to induce action from your visitors. By using shocking keywords, you can startle your visitors to increase CTR.
- And here are more “magical” keywords from the TrafficTactics.com team
- How does the 20/80 rule apply to PPC Marketing? Basically, from launch to optimization, you should be left with a handful of keywords to optimize your campaigns on. Derek at ClickConsultants.com explains how the 80/20 rule applies to keywords in your PPC marketing campaigns.
- You should always consider the structure of your PPC campaigns in order to maximize your ROI and conversions. Joe from PPCHero.com talks about how a poor PPC structure will make your campaign suffer.
- Here is something that I haven’t had too much experience with.. which is Facebook ads. It’s pretty hot to get into right now, although, it’s getting much more saturated as more and more blogs talk about it. Anyway, Zac Johnson talks about split testing different pictures in your ad copy. It’s interesting to see how each picture can make big differences!
So that’s it! Now go out there and make some money!

Niche Research: Brainstorming and Mindmapping
Posted by JasperP on August 15th, 2008
I had a consultation with Derek at ClickConsultants and he advised that I create a mind map in order to brainstorm all the possible phrases and keywords used in the debt relief niche I’ve been working on. Since my campaign hasn’t been performing as I liked, I started from scratch in order to get a good idea of my niche.
So I went through Google looking for phrases to discover more about my niche. As I was doing that I put them in a mind mapping software called Freemind. This software is free and you can get it at:
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
Anyway, here is the mind map that I came up with for the debt relief campaign
Now, I didn’t just combine words and just throw them in a list. I basically used these to create a base keyword list and started plugging it into keyword tools like Wordtracker, Wordze, and the Adwords Keyword Tool.
I ended up with around ~50k, but after grouping them by 1,2,3-kw phrases, I ended up with a list of ~27k keywords. I just re-imported them back into Yahoo and YSM declined about 6-7k, which left me with 19k in my campaign.
To sum it up, it really helps to discover the terminology and wording used in your niche. Use it as a guideline and start plugging them into the keyword tools. Use your brain, use the search engines and then use the keyword tools.

Internet Marketing And The Business Mindset
Posted by JasperP on August 4th, 2008
So how bad do you want to have Internet Marketing work for you? Or even have a successful business for that matter? I believe that it comes from this inner desire to change yourself and to fulfill your dreams. But how bad do you want it?
Here’s a little story that might help illustrate this:
Once upon a time, there was a guy named Bob who would sit on his porch all day with his pet dog, Fido. Jack, who likes to take walks around his neighborhood, always passes by Bob on his way to the store. Everyday, Jack would hear Fido constantly whining, but he would just lie there all day.
One day, Jack decided to ask Bob, “Hey Bob, how come your dog is always whining?”. Bob replies, “Well, it’s because Fido has a tack in his foot.”. “Then how come Fido doesn’t try to remove it?”, Jack asks.
“Because it doesn’t hurt bad enough”, Bob says.
Now that probably wasn’t best story in the world, but it does illustrate a point. If something hurts bad enough, then people tend to take action to improve their situation. A lot of people are comfortable with their situation and never go beyond that.
Being able to materialize your dreams is something that comes from within yourself. When you find your reason to fulfill you dreams, then you’ll go beyond the failures and obstacles to reach your destination.
In this business, failure is not an option. You will most likely fail at some point doing this type of work. Why? It’s just a part of doing business. Some things work and some things don’t. Once you improve your tolerance for failure, you will start improving your business mindset.
With Internet Marketing, there are so many things that can go wrong and so many variables to take into account. Demand, competition, copywriting, data analysis, coding, design, work habits, learning ability, etc, etc. I could probably go on and on, but you need to understand what your strengths and weaknesses are in order to compete as a marketer. This means that you’re going to be learning some things that you have never learned before and the learning curve can be kind of steep.
Remain persistent and push forward through all the failures and you might find yourself in a profitable situation.
“Fail as fast as you can. Get it over with and move on.”
